A West Palm Beach man was arrested in a nearly three-year investigation after being linked to a suspected mortgage fraud plan.
The Florida Financial Regulatory Authority has announced the arrest of Yasmani Rodriguez, who is currently charged with mortgage fraud, personal information theft, communications fraud, and falsified paperwork. The case was investigated by the OFR with the support of the Economic Crimes Unit of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, which began an investigation in October 2018 after receiving reports of alleged fraud to acquire property. ..
According to an OFR press release, Rodriguez has taken a $ 245,000 mortgage on a vacant lot in Collier County that it doesn’t own, breaking the corporate record of a legitimate owner of real estate in the Florida State Department. He used counterfeit documents to represent himself as a real estate owner to obtain a mortgage from a private lender. The proceeds of the loan were deposited in an account managed by Rodriguez, which was opened using forged corporate documents. He withdrew most of the money in cash.
Rodriguez was arrested by police in the Miami-Dade Airport area.
