Brookfield police charged a 26-year-old Tolleson, Arizona, man with driving under the influence of alcohol and several other traffic offenses after plowing his 2014 Chrysler 300 into a wooden utility pole at the intersection of Prairie and Windemere avenues on Nov. 20 at 11:30 p.m.

Neither the driver nor his 24-year-old male passenger was seriously injured in the crash, according to police, though the crash deployed the vehicle’s air bags and broke the pole near its base, causing it to lean dangerously.

A witness told police he heard tires screeching and then observed the vehicle lose control while turning left onto Windemere from southbound Prairie Avenue. The passenger reportedly told police they had been driving from “the bars down the street.”
