The scam involves a person calling residents pretending to be with the Bay Village Police Department and asking for donations.

The Bay Village Police Department is warning community members of a current scam after a female resident lost $25.

Early Tuesday morning, the female Bay Village resident reported she received a phone call from someone pretending to be a part of the Bay Village Police Department. During the phone call, the male suspect claimed that he was collecting money for BVPD.

After the victim donated $25, she believed it could be a scam which led to her reaching out to the police station.

In a Facebook post, BVPD noted that they would never solicit donations over the phone.
