It seems there has been more interest in my reflections on events over a long career than my reporting on current economic and market trends. At least that’s the non-scientific polling that comes from those that care to weigh in on the value – or lack thereof – of my weekly writings.
So, I have another unusual story for you. You will recall Bernie Madoff, the “American financier” who executed the largest Ponzi scheme in history. He defrauded thousands of investors out of tens of billions of dollars over the course of at least 17 years. In 2009, at the Fox Studios in New York I had an interesting meeting with a group of his victims. There were 5 of them – all related in some fashion to one another.
Fox studios has a “green room” where guests wait for their turn to go on the air with a news anchor. Conveniently, there is a small adjacent room with two beauticians who can “powder your nose”. That is so that most of us average people can look presentable under bright lights on high resolution television. There are also numerous screens on the wall to allow waiting guests to observe all of the interviews in process on the various “sets” up and down the halls. To add a little color, it was in one of those hallways that I observed Bill O’Reilly curse a poor female employee unmercifully for some unknown misgivings (not long after that, Fox asked him to pursue his success elsewhere!)
