GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI — Officials with Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation are warning the community of fake events circulating on social media.

Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation officials say to make sure that the events are hosted by them or Grand Blanc Township, according to a Thursday, Oct. 7 press release.

For example, one fraudulent event promises an online feature where they can view an event online and credit card information is scammed.

If an event does not list the department or township, odds are it is fake. One event shows the page’s origins in Bangladesh, a big giveaway, officials say.

Attempts to report these events to Facebook as a scam or fake have once again been unsuccessful, with officials asking in the release that if residents see their “Facebook Friends” sharing or liking the events to let them know such posts are fake.

While there are fake events being shared online, plans are truly in the works for the Holiday Tree Lighting event this December.

The Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation’s premier holiday event will be presented by ELGA Credit Union.

Details for this event will be forthcoming in the next few weeks and those interested are encouraged to mark their calendars for Friday, Dec. 3.

However, Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation won’t be hosting a holiday drive thru at Creasey Bicentennial Park. Unfortunately, the fake event from last year and some new events promising a holiday drive-thru are circulating on Facebook again, officials said.
