THE BUZZ — LA DA RECALL REDUX: Another recall? Indeed. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón will be facing a high-profile recall early next year. But already, there’s some interesting friction between two camps with the same goal: to oust him from office.
Gascón, the progressive prosecutor who won the office with the help of deep-pocketed supporters — New York billionaire George Soros and philanthropist Patty Quillin, wife of Netflix magnate Reed Hastings, to name a few — fought off the last effort to recall him just weeks ago. He dismissed it as “a right-wing stunt, backed by [President Donald] Trump’s top donors, to overturn a free and fair election in our community.”
But former Los Angeles DA Steve Cooley told POLITICO he’s now part of a new movement to oust Gascón — one which he says enjoys solidly bipartisan support. “Mr. Gascón is the 43rd district attorney in Los Angeles County’s 171-year history,’’ Cooley told us. “And moments after being sworn in, he announced criminally-oriented policies that abandoned victims. … He instantly became not only the worst district attorney in LA County history, but one of the greatest dangers to the criminal justice system.”
Cooley is joined in the effort by Desiree Andrade, whose son Julian, 20, was allegedly tortured and murdered in 2018. Former DA Jackie Lacey charged the suspects with kidnapping, robbery and using a deadly weapon in commission of a crime — but Andrade said she…
