On Sept. 29, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the police department received a call regarding a scam for a rental property. A local resident reported that a resident of New York had showed up at a property she owns stating that they had rented the house through Craigslist. The house was not listed for rent by the owner. The visitor stated that he had signed a contract and sent money via bank transfer to secure the property. The visitor was advised to contact his bank, and the homeowner made arrangements to accommodate the traveler.
The Southwest Harbor Police Department was alerted to a possible theft of services (power) by Versant Power on Sept. 28. Upon investigation, officer Burke found that the security clips had been cut and removed and the meter had been tampered with. A suspect has been identified. The case is under investigation.
An officer responded to a theft complaint at Circle K last Tuesday. The business owner did not wish to press charges, but a person was warned for trespassing.
On Sept. 29, the police department received a report of a truck with its tailgate down sticking into the roadway on Main Street. Contact was made with the owner of the vehicle who moved it.
