The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Elburn Police Department are warning of two recent scams aimed at separating you from your money.

The Sheriff’s Office reports on its Facebook page that an unknown suspect is calling people from what appears to be the Kane County Sheriff’s Office phone number and demanding they pay a large fine to avoid incarceration because they missed a grand jury subpoena.

“This is not coming from us and is a criminal act,” Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said via Facebook.

The village of Elburn said area residents should be alert to a potential scam in which an individual pretends to be a garage door repair technician sent to the home to fix a garage door. In a recent incident, the suspect said he was sent by Shodeen Construction to fix a garage door.

Shodeen had not sent anyone to the residence and told the resident they would reach out to them first, if any repairs were needed.

No suspects have been identified.

Elburn police suggest that any resident experiencing similar suspicious activity call 9-1-1 immediately.
